What to Expect from your
Manual Lymph Drainage treatment

Your therapist will first discuss your goal for the visit and assess your needs as it relates to your lymphatic system. In order for the therapist to successfully treat your lymphatic system, he or she must be able to contact your skin with their hands. That means you will be on the therapy table wearing underwear and covered with a top sheet. The area being treated will be exposed ONLY if you, the patient, are comfortable with the treatment of that particular area. Only the area treated is exposed from underneath the top sheet.  The Centre for Soft Tissue Pain prides itself on clients being comfortable both in the front lobby and in the treatment rooms.  That way all soft tissue treatments will be maximized for the benefit of the client.

The treatment itself is VERY gentle, with repetitive and rhythmic movements, safe and effectively proven to move lymph fluid. Under no circumstance should the patient experience discomfort or pain. While on the table the patient may fall asleep or into a deep relaxed state. This helps to calm the nervous system and to move lymph by decreasing the tonus of the tissue.

Prior to and after treatment it is recommended to drink a little more water than you normally do in order to help re-hydrate the tissues. An extra two or three 8 ounce glasses of water above what you normally drink in a day would be acceptable. Following the treatment you may find that you will need to evacuate your digestive system or bladder more often than normal.  You may also find that you will sleep very well as a result of your nervous system being calmed down from the actual treatment.
